WASHINGTON - A push for new taxes on soda, beer, wine and some unhealthy food to help pay for Americans' health care.
Do you think this is the right idea to make people eat healthy? or they should just let people correct themselves?

Why not;I think they should. They always have raised taxes on tabacco because it is not healthy to smoke.Tabacco cause lung cancer;unhealthy food cause obesity and one can die from it.
ReplyDeleteRaise taxes on unhealthy food and lower the taxes on healthy food.
ReplyDeleteWine? Since when wine became an unhealthy dink?
ReplyDeleteWine is good and bad .In moderation and as part of an overall healthy diet, the short answer is yes!
ReplyDeleteThanks to its alcohol content and non-alcoholic phytochemicals (natural occurring plant compounds), wine has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, certain cancers and slow the progression of neurological degenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.
However, the amount of wine you drink matters tremendously. Drink more than what’s recommended, your health benefits are lost and your health risks go up.
Here’s what’s considered safe and effective:
Men: No more than two drinks per day.Women: No more than one drink per day.
One drink is defined as a 5-ounce glass of red or white wine, 12 ounces of regular beer (1 bottle) or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits.
So like everything, just don't abuse it.
For the #2 comment,I dont think the Government would lower taxes on the healthy products.I would like to see the same thing but i doubt it.The Gov want more money in so they can provide health care so any tax decrease would not meet their expectations. That is what I think anyway.
ReplyDeleteFor the fist commentator,I think that is pretty good reason to make;but i think the Gov has always thought people don't need cigarette to live or survive which is true but people need food to live or to survive so any tax increase on Tabacco would make sens and any tax increase on food would not be right. Now the obesity is sky rocketing;no room on ER for some heart attack patients, kids diabetes tripled or more
ReplyDeleteI think it is now fair game to the gov to raise taxes on unhealthy food since both unhealthy life style(smoking and unhealthy food)lead to medical complications even death.
The Gov is not going to banned tabacco nor unhealthy food because lot of lobbyist from those two groups but the Gov is responsible to protect us.They would discourage us to live an unhealthy life style by increasing taxes on products that are deemed to be dangerous.
The government need to leave people alone. They need to find better things to do than this non seens tax hijack.
ReplyDeleteI can see people getting frustrated about the Gov.I don't like big government myself but I do want the Gov to interfere when health and safety of its citizen are in play;and this tax increase on unhealthy food would be a good example of government looking for well being of its citizen. They did it on Tabacco and they keep putting laws to save and help people .I didn't know second hand smoke can be as bad as first hand smoke. Now all those young moms out there who smoke will no longer smoke in the house where the kids are.Good progress.
ReplyDeleteGov is trying to help every citizen if someone does want the gov help then the gov will protect the next person;that is why I think Tabacco laws and tax on unhealthy food should be put in place .If they don't help or protect, and one of our love one die from all those unhealthy lifestyle we will be the first ones that would come out loud and blame the Gov.
I totally agree with you yvesbbaka.
